Construction Industry Perspective
The 3rd National Workshop on Construction Materials was held on Saturday, March 09, 2013 at NED University of Engineering and Technology. The workshop was organized by Construction Materials Research Group (CMRG) at NED University of Engineering and Technology, which was established with the vision to strengthen the research related to construction materials in all aspects, to provide services to the construction industry to overcome issues related to different construction materials and to promote the best use of the construction materials. Since its inception in 2009, CMRG has been active in developing knowledge regarding construction materials with a view for applications in civil infrastructure.
The First National Workshop was held in November 2010 which was attended by over 100 professionals of the construction industry representing the academia, government officials, consulting firms, contractors, materials manufactures and suppliers and aggregate industry. Since the First National Workshop, the Construction Industry has supported the CMRG initiative with Fellowships to CMRG. The Second National Workshop was held on December 2011 and was organized with the objective to highlight some of the work accomplished, in progress and directions for future work. It was also well attended and resulted in one more CMRG Fellowship.
The Third National Workshop provided an opportunity to the industry to share their experiences and perspective on issues and challenges confronting the Industry. Over 150 professionals from academia, government, industry including manufacturers, suppliers, consultants, contractors, and regulating bodies participated in the event. The eight invited presentations were:

- Use of Polypropylene Fibers in Concrete
- Pakistani Cement Complies with Global Standards
- Rebar Steel Industry in Pakistan
- Non Destructive Testing Methods for Quality Assurance and Quality Control of Concrete Highways in Pakistan – Construction and Maintenance
- Pre-cast Industry in Pakistan
- Translucent Concrete
